I love the offers to teach them other languages! Glad to hear that your one year made such a difference. It’s true – I remember my childhood in Egypt so well and do have memories of when I was three, which is Ava’s age now.

I’m sure some memories will stick. I remember more from my year living in the middle east when I was 6 than years 7, 8 or 9. And of course it’s impacting them as they form their personalities. if we ever live in the same city, I can teach them spanish!

Yup – all that cultural exposure growing up definitely made me who I am (for better or worse!).

Yes, I suppose they will subconsciously remember more than we realize. I think a better proposition is for you to teach them French yourself 🙂

Hopefully some of this will stick. They can be multi-lingual, so bring on the Gaelic.

It will sink in somewhere – as it did with you!
We all descended from Adam & Eve who lived in the Garden of Eden somewhere in Africa.

They may not remember everything but some of the experiences will have lasting impressions on them making some actions or reactions a habit without them realizing when or how it became one.

PS: I will send them their French learning DVDs once you are back in the Big Apple!

Based off your experiences in Penang and the amazing cultural opportunities you’ve exposed the kids too, I know they’ll help guide them in their life (although I wouldn’t count on Ava giving so much reverence to candles-we know how much she loves blowing out anyone’s birthday candles!)

In terms of a foreign language for ava and kayan to learn, I thought we had decided I would teach them gaelic so they would be fluent! Don’t renege on the deal!
